Pan Yard Judging begins Monday 27th July
July 24th, 2009 -- A new innovation in the lead up to this year's panorama competition, the panyard judging, will kick off on Monday night 27th July 2009.
CEO of the Grenada Cultural foundation Dexter Mitchell says that "just like the steelband bomb tune competition, the pan yard judging is an attempt to generate interest in the panorama finals" which is carded to take place at the National Stadium on Saturday August 8th. "The results of the pan yard has no bearing on the finals and the idea is to have the judges make observations before the finals".
It is expected that a panel of local (Grenadian) judges will be making their observations for the panyard judging. These judges will also adjudicate at the Junior Panorama competition scheduled for Saturday August 1st, 2009. However, judging for the national panorama finals on August 8th will be adjudicated by a panel of judges from Trinidad.

Steelbands are expected to play for a maximum of ten minutes on panorama night. However, it is understood that the judges for the pan yard segment will only listen to seven minutes of the panorama piece when they visit each pan yard.
It is normal, that with one week to go, some bands are still working to complete their arrangement while others may be fine tuning their arrangement and changing parts. Even without the judges comments and observations, it is very unlikely that what bands are playing early next week will be the same as what they do on Panorama night.
