Steelbands draw for Panorama 2009 Order of Appearance

August 6th, 2009 -- The eight steelbands participating in Grenada's Panorama competition 2009 yesterday drew for their positions of appearance at this year's event to be held at the National Stadium on Saturday August 8th. Appearing in position number one will be the pride of St. Andrew's, Rainbow City All Stars. Defending Panorama Champions Republic Bank Angel Harps will appear in position seven. Officials from the Grenada Steelbands Association and the Grenada Carnival Committee (GCC) have promised a Panorama 2009 "with a difference". According to Michael Archibald, Chairman of the GCC sub-committee for steelband, this year's Panorama Show "will be produced by Ricky Keens-Douglas and will feature activities in between the appearance of bands". One of these activities that will fill the gap between the appearance of the bands will be the live performance of the bands' panorama selection.

President of the GSA, Michael Robertson, says that this year, patrons to the panorama event could expect a faster and more fluid turnover of the bands appearing on stage. "We are looking at a maximum of fifteen minutes for bands to exit the stage and for the next band to be set up and ready to play" he said. Using the experience of the Junior Panorama when six bands participated in two hours, the GSA president estimates that the panorama should could well be over in three hours and invited the general public to come down to panorama as "by eleven o'clock, you could well be on your way out of the stadium and on to your next show or fete on that night".
