AGD Wiz Kids Repeat Panorama Championship
St. George's, Saturday August 5th 2006 -- Defending Champions of Grenada's Junior Panorama, AGD Signs Wiz Kids from River Road made it two victories in a row when they won the 2006 Junior Panorama Championships held at Tanteen Recreation Ground earlier today.
In second position was Cable & Wireless Commancheros Juniors while Republic Bank Angel Harps Juniors finished in third position. The other bands who participated in the competition but were not placed were St John's Stars from Gouyave (an association with Florida All Stars) and Grenada's newest steelband Grand Roy Pan Angels who were recently formed in January 2006.
In winning the title for two consecutive years, Wiz Kids became the third band to repeat at the Junior Panorama following Pan Lovers in 92 and 93 and Republic Bank Angel Harps from 1995 to 2000. Angel Harps has the most consecutive victories (five) as well as the most victories in Junior Panorama (1995, 1996, 1998, 1999, 2000)
The Junior Panorama, which is held as part of the annual Children's Carnival Frolic, was reshuffled to between the Parade of the Bands and the Junior Calypso Monarch for the first time - a move that was obviously welcomed by the pan fraternity and one which allowed them to pack up and return home while still relatively early.
In the Parade of the bands the winner was Helen Marie & Associates with the Mt. Moritz Community in second place and Lazarus Antoine finishing in third position.
In the Junior Calypso Monarch, there was a new winner in Monique Cummings. In second position was Antonia Simon and there was a tie for third between Lendon Telesford and Eiteron Edwards. The other positions were as follows; 5th Dahlia Alexander, 6th (Three tied for 6th position) Cinika Moses, Navina Francis, Shanieka Alexander, in 9th position was Jorine Felix with Omega Antoine finishing in 10th position.
