Cable & Wireless Commancheros Juniors retain title

Sunday 3rd August, 2008 --- Defending Junior Panorama Champions, Cable & Wireless Commancheros yesterday retained their title when they convincingly won the 2008 Junior Panorama competition at the National Stadium in St. George's.

The youngsters from St. Pauls, playing a Stephen Greenidge and Calvin Thomas arrangement of "Cheros Boys" scored 272 points, twentysix points ahead of second place finishers Lewis Construction Grand Roy Pan Angels who amassed a total of 246 points. In third place was AGD Wiz Kids from River Road with 241.5 points while Republic Bank Angel Harps finished a disappointing 4th with 234 points.

Commancheros will now be looking at the senior competition which the band has won for the last two years and feeling confident that they can three-peat by winning the championship for the third consecutive year. After winning four out of the last four pan competitions (seniors 2006 and 2007, juniors 2007 and 2008) they will feel that they now have the formula and will be very confident coming into the seniors competition on Saturday August 9th.

It was a celebration of sorts for the junior contingent from Grand Roy Pan Angels. Appearing in competition for the first time as a sponsored band, the Junior Pan Angels created another first when they secured the second position - the first time that the band has finished in the top three in either of the senior or junior panorama competition. As is customary with this band, they gave a spirited and energetic performance of a Denver Mendes arrangement of "Leh we play pan" on their way to beating former Junior Champions Angel Harps and Wiz Kids.
