Starlift Ready (From Douggie Joseph in Kingstown)
November 1st, 2001: The management of this country's representative to the first-ever Caribbean Panorama scheduled for Grenada from November 25 to December 1, 2001 says the band is ready for competition.
Manager Errol 'Sardo' Sutherland is confident Starlift will make the country proud and he is pinning his hopes on the number of junior players who are eager to compete.
'"We are ready," Sutherland says. "The band has been practising very hard each night and the players are rearing to go." Sutherland also stated there are a few ends to be tied up but "we will be ready for the grand occasion. " Government has pledged its support in ensuring that Starlift makes it to Grenada.
Seven countries, Antigua-Barbuda, Barbados, Grenada, Guyana, St Lucia, Trinidad and Tobago and St Vincent and the Grenadines, will take part in the inaugural competition.
A total of 10 steel bands will compete for the honour of Caribbean Panorama Champion. Each band will play a non-calypso tune in calypso tempo and a calypso as the panorama piece. Starlift will render 'Rondo Alla Turca from Sonata in A Major' by Mozart and Errol 'De Man Age' Rose's 'We Want We Pan' .
Errol 'Josiah' Isaac, son of Starlift's founder, the late Tanny Peters, is the man responsible for arranging the tunes. He is based in the USA and was brought home specially for the competition
