Book by former Angel Harps member launches in Grenada August 6th
A book just published by veteran Grenadian journalist Lincoln Toro Depradine has been described as a “meticulously researched work.’’
“It makes the reader a front row observer of island life laced with intrigue, gossip and the funny bone tickler,’’ Ghana-born Sam Donkoh says in a review of “White Frock & Coals Dust: The Story of A Community Called The Wharf.’’
The 15-chapter book, comprising 200 pages of text and photographs, is published by the New York-based Mayaro Imprint company. It was released on July 28.
“I’m delighted that the book has finally been published,’’ said Depradine. “It represents more than four years of researching, writing, re-writing, editing and re-editing.’’
The book’s main setting is The Wharf/Carenage community; it’s about the people who lived and frequented the area and of some of the events that occurred there.
“But many of the events involve more than The Wharf. Some have relations to national and even regional issues,’’ Depradine explains.
A limited number of copies of “White Frock & Coals Dust’’ will be available for sale at a book launch on Thursday, August 6th at 6 p.m., outside the Angel Harps Steel Orchestra’s panhouse in Tanteen, St. George’s.
Books are being sold at EC$31.99 each.
